Mercari Hiring Software Engineer Intern 2025

The Build Training Program teaches participants the fundamental knowledge required for software engineering. Over the course of 2 weeks, participants will take on individual challenges with support from Mercari Group engineers. This program is unpaid.

Program Details

Teamwork and Learning:
- Participants will be split into small teams and work on individual challenges while communicating with teammates.
- Learn the basics of web app development, including:
  - How to use Git
  - Basics of databases
  - Web API development using Python or Go
  - Frontend web development
  - Providing services using Docker/Docker Compose
- Access to Udemy and DevDojo videos for in-depth learning (accessible for 1 year).
Programming Languages:
- Backend: Python or Go
Dates:
- Participants in Japan: March 1–14, 2025
- Participants abroad: March 3–14, 2025
Schedule:
- Orientation:
- Online Learning: March 3–14, 2025
- Final Presentations: March 14, 2025, 3 PM JST
Additional Information:
- Transportation and accommodation for orientation day covered by Mercari (for eligible participants).
- Each team will have a mentor available on weekdays (10 AM–7 PM JST) in Japanese or English.

Unique Challenges

Participants will tackle technical assignments created by Mercari Group engineers to learn practical programming skills. Mentors will provide guidance on both technical assignments and career advice.

Application Requirements

Shared belief in Mercari Group's mission and values.
Identify as female, aged 16 or above, with less than 3 years of work experience.
Access to a computer and internet.
Experience coding in at least one programming language, including:
- Understanding simple programming statements (e.g., if, for).
- Using a code editor (e.g., Visual Studio Code).
- Using basic commands (cd, cp, mv) in Terminal or Command Prompt.
Availability to participate in:
- Orientation Day: March 1 (Japan) or March 3 (Abroad).
- Daily program activities: 2+ hours per day (10 AM–7 PM JST).
Optional follow-up session for those needing additional technical preparation.

Language Requirements

Training: Japanese or English (CEFR - B2)
Internship: Japanese or English (CEFR - B2)

Selection Process

Selection Flow:
- Application → Document screening → Basic coding test → Final screening → Acceptance
